Teacher Training

Our teacher training programme is a short intense one-day programme aimed for teaching assistants, experienced teachers in secondary setting and higher education in universities.

Our attendees will receive a “Certificate of attainment” from our collaborators in Oxford along with significant training which will enhance their continual professional development along with students learning. The expert trainers are from Oxford and the course is run online.

Course timing – 9 am to 5 pm (tailored to school’s requirement or group)

Our Courses

Developing Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills in the Classroom

The programme aims to support teachers in all subjects to develop in their students the ability to “think outside the box”, the skills of lateral thinking, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and critical analysis.

Some of the following approaches are included:

Problem Solving Skills

  • Defining the problem and analysing the information given in the question. Using diagrams.
  • Identifying known and unknown elements.
  • Identifying the knowledge required…examples, illustrations etc and collecting
  • Sources of information.
  • Developing the best strategy for a solution, and trying alternatives.
  • Encouraging students to constantly refer to the questions being asked.

Critical Thinking Skills

  • Beginning with a question. “What happens if…..?
  • The Socratic method and learning from peers.
  • Thinking aloud.
  • Drawing upon previous knowledge.
  • Knowing what information to include and what to discard.
  • Using diagrams for information models.
  • Brainstorming and concept mapping.
  • Using roleplay to encourage empathy with various viewpoints.
  • Summarising information and ensuring it is relevant.
  • Using errors as a means of identifying better solutions.
  • Setting a framework and goals.
  • Planning lessons to build in enough time for understanding, question.
  • Answer sessions and review.

We always teach this programme within the context of the subject, not as a separate exercise, and adapt it to the age group of the students who are being taught. The programme is therefore adapted to meet the needs of each individual teacher or group.

Public Speaking, Presentation and Communication Skills

Of-course communication skills are key for all teachers, but sometimes teachers are called upon to make presentations to large groups, or simply to enhance their present classroom skills.

The programme is designed to give practice and confidence. It includes:

  • Initial assessment of public speaking skills.
  • Dealing with nervousness.
  • Relating to the audience: using appropriate language, vocal emphasis and gesture.
  • Being persuasive, informative and inspiring.
  • Assertiveness, persuasiveness and delivering the message with authority.
  • Handling difficult questions.
  • Delivering tough messages.
  • Feedback through video, discussion and assessments.
  • Preparing the speech: Keeping to the main aim, knowing your audience, using relevant evidence, and delivering a conclusion with impact.
  • Using visual aids effectively: Powerpoint,whiteboard, flipcharts, graphs etc.

The programmes are designed to meet the requirements of each group or individual. They run throughout the year and starting dates are flexible.

All our programmes for teachers and educational managers are of flexible duration, and starting dates are by agreement.
